| dc.description.abstract | The Institute of Marine Research surveyed the condition of kelp communities in harvesting fields (Category C) in Møre og Romsdal and Sør-Trøndelag in April 2013. The survey was performed by underwater video, along 1-2 transects in every field classified into category C in both counties. The C-fields are earmarked for harvesting in 2013-2014, commencing in October 2013. On the majority of the surveyed C-fields in Møre og Romsdal the kelp vegetation appeared healthy, with an average Laminaria hyperborea coverage of 78%, and few sea urchins. The kelp vegetation in the northern parts of the field labeled 31C, west of Smøla island, in Møre og Romsdal appeared still to be in a juvenile phase and less suited to harvesting in 2013-2014. In Sør-Trøndelag the condition of the kelp-vegetation varied between regions. On the harvesting fields south on the Fosen peninsula (73C, 78C, 83C), east of the Frøya and Hitra islands (58C, 63C, 68C), and one field south of the Frøya island (14C), the kelp vegetation was considered not suitable for harvesting in 2013-2014, mainly due to high density of sea urchins (Echinus esculentus). The kelp vegetation on the remaining C-fields surveyed in Sør-Trøndelag in 2013, appeared in a better state, more suited for harvest during the forthcoming campaign. | no_NO |
