Fishing experiments for blue whiting by using two boat midwater trawls were carried out during April and May 1972. The catches amounted to more than 30 tons per hour trawling, and the most serious problem was to get on board the biggest catches without breaking the gear. It is concluded that the concentrations of blue whiting are dense enough for commercial fishing with the gear used, and it is recommended that further experiments should be carried out in order to find the most suitable dimensions of the gear.en_US
