On a cruise with R. V. «G. O. Sars» from 12 March to 12 April 1973 the distribution and abundance of blue whiting northwest of the British Isles were again observed by direct hydroacoustic methods. It is concluded that the total spawning stock is probably in the order of 8 mill. tons. The spawning had begun in the Porcupine Bank area on 26 March. Spawners or postspawners were also observed all along the shelfedge as far north as the Wyville - Thompsons Ridge between 26 March and 11 April.en
