From 10 January to 3 April four vessels were monitoring the spawning migration of capelin in the Barents Sea. The migration started in early February along three different routes. The main part of the spawning population reached the coast of Norway in the end of February. The spawning started in the Vardø area about 15 March and in the most western part of the spawning area about 1 April. The greatest quantities of eggs were found as previous years on rather coarse bottom as gravel, shell gravel and pebbles at depths between 25 and 50m. The temperature at the spawning grounds varied between 1.8°C and 3.5°C.en
