During June - July 1976 observations were made on the distribution, abundance and year-class composition of capelin in the Barents Sea. Compared with June 1975 some differences were recorded. A larger abundance of capelin was recorded in the area west of 36°E. East of 36°E the capelin was distributed over a wider area compared with 1975. This may be due to a time difference, in 1976 the cruise was carried out in this area about 3 weeks later compared with 1975, and a northward feeding migration with a subsequent scattering of the capelin concentrations was probably in progress in 1976. The total stock abundance was larger than in 1975, and there was also observed an increased growth rate.en
