dc.description.abstract | Little information exists on the predation on the early
life stages of marine fish in general and even less on cod.
Thus the approach used in this review was to infer the
predatory processes that may be significant in the early
life history of cod using the general literature on the
predators of marine fish eggs and larvae. The mortality of
cod during the embryonic period is high indicating a high
rate of predation and predation may continue to be the
dominant source of mortality in later larval stages. The
known predators of eggs and larvae are discussed as are
intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect vulnerability to
predation. Recommendations are made for future research. | en |
