Sammendrag
The various types of samples, the observations made on each fish, and
the coding procedure for these observations are described. The
standard procedure of otolith studies on the capelin stock is
described in detail, including dissection out, rinsing, embedding,
reading and measuring. A description of the present ageing method used
at the IMR in Bergen is included.
In addition, a method for using the samples to construct
representative absolute distributions is presented, based on weighing
the samples relative to the acoustic abundance estimate. An appendix
describes the format in which the coded information is stored for
computer treatment.
