Otolithes of juvenile blue whiting when recruiting to the industrial fishery in the Norwegian Deep in early autumn (August-October 1970-72) could be divided into two groups, without or with a very insignificant hyaline ring. During the autumn a hyaline ring (a Bowers zone) was laid down followed by new opaque material. A true hyaline winter zone was laid down later in the winter.en_US
