Two new blue whiting trawls with very large meshes in the front part have been tested with regard to towing resistance, operational qualities and catching efficiency. The results confirm that the large mesh design is quite suitable for blue whiting fishing to reduce towing power and/or increase the trawl mouth opening. Large mesh traw~are already in commercial use by blue whiting trawlers in Norway.en_US
