Abstract
From 1 to 19 April the R.V. «Johan Hjort» carried out
investigations at the spawning grounds of capelin. The spawning
took place between Slettnes and Grense Jakobselv. The
greatest quantities of eggs were found on rather coarse bottom
as gravel and shell gravel. The depth of most spawning grounds
was between 25 and 50 m. The temperature at the spawning
grounds varied between 2.8 and 4.3°C.
From 21 April to 30 May capelin larvae were sampled from
the R.V. "M.Ytterstad". Hatching started about 30 April and
reached a maximum in the middle of May. The consentrations
of larvae were largest between Makkaur and Vardø.
