Abstract
The cod fisheries in Vestfjorden, an ocean bay in Northern Norway
have played the most important role in the development of the
marine researeh in the area, Since G.0. Sars started his famous
work on the biology of the cod in Vestfjorden in 1864, the different
disciplines of the marine research have always been closely
connected. In this report, however, emphasize is made on the development
of physical oceanography. In particular the influence of
the physical aspects on the spawning behaviour of cod is described
and also the transport and distribution of cod eggs. Results from
previous investigations have been compared to show the importance
of the wind conditions,
